Accelerated Reading

Since April 2015, we have been developing our use of the ‘Accelerated Reader’ computerised reading scheme, in Years 2-6. The scheme has been designed to engage children in reading through quality books, online quizzes and immediate feedback on performance.

How it works:

  • At the start of each half term, children complete a test which gives them a ‘book band’. Children can choose from a range of books within their band to fit their interest age and reading level. They also receive reading targets.

  • Having finished a book, individuals complete a comprehension quiz based on the story or information they have read. Quizzes are either 5 or 10 questions long.

  • As soon as the quiz is complete, the system provides immediate feedback on quiz scores and progress towards their target.
