Pupil Premium

Pupil Premium

We understand that every child is unique and has their own individual needs. At Whitnash Primary, we are committed to providing the best possible education and support for all our pupils. As part of this commitment, we want to ensure that every child, regardless of their background or circumstances, has an equal opportunity to thrive and succeed.

What is Pupil Premium?

Pupil Premium is a government initiative aimed at supporting disadvantaged pupils. The Pupil Premium is additional funding provided to schools to help narrow the attainment gap between disadvantaged pupils and their peers.  It is designed to provide extra resources, opportunities and support for children who may face barriers to their learning due to financial or social circumstances.

How is it used at Whitnash Primary School?

At our school, we see the Pupil Premium as a valuable tool to help us create an inclusive and nurturing environment for all our pupils. The Pupil Premium funding can be used in a variety of ways to address the specific needs of individual children and the whole school. Here are some examples of how we utilise this funding:

  1. Extra Learning Support: We can provide additional teaching and support staff to deliver targeted interventions for pupils who need extra help in specific subjects. This can include one-on-one or small group tuition to reinforce key concepts and boost academic progress.
  2. Resources and Equipment: The Pupil Premium allows us to invest in educational resources, books, technology, and equipment that enhance the learning experience for all children. This ensures that pupils have access to the same tools and materials as their peers, fostering a level playing field in the classroom.
  3. Enrichment Activities: We strongly believe in providing a broad and balanced curriculum that extends beyond the classroom. With the funding, we can offer extracurricular activities, trips, and workshops that enrich pupils' experiences, inspire their passions, and develop their social and emotional skills.
  4. Well-being and Pastoral Support: The funding also enables us to provide additional pastoral care and support services. This may include dedicated staff to address the emotional well-being of pupils, nurture positive relationships, and promote a safe and inclusive school environment.

We want to emphasise the positive impact that the Pupil Premium can have on your child's educational journey.  By utilising this funding effectively, we can break down barriers, boost self-confidence and create opportunities for success.  We believe that every child deserves an equal chance to thrive.

Is my child eligible?

Together, we can ensure that every child receives the support they need to flourish and achieve their potential.

Oversight

To oversee the effective use of Pupil Premium funding, we have designated Miss Hawkins as our Pupil Premium Lead. Miss Hawkins will have oversight of the support provided to our disadvantaged pupils, working closely with teachers, parents, and external agencies to ensure that the resources and interventions are effectively implemented.

Pupil Premium and Thrive

In addition to the Pupil Premium, we are proud to embrace the Thrive Approach in our school. The Thrive Approach is a social and emotional wellbeing program that promotes positive mental health, resilience, and emotional intelligence. By incorporating the Thrive Approach into our curriculum, we create an environment where all pupils feel safe, supported and ready to learn.

The Pupil Premium, alongside the Thrive Approach, has brought many positive changes to our school community. It has allowed us to enhance our provision, deliver targeted interventions and foster an inclusive ethos that celebrates the strengths and achievements of all our pupils. We firmly believe that by investing in the holistic development of each child, we can empower them to flourish academically, emotionally, and socially.
