English as Additional Language
English as Additional Language
At Whitnash we welcome the cultural,
linguistic and educational experiences
pupils with English as an additional
language (EAL) contribute to the school.
We ensure strategies are in place
to support pupils with EAL which enable
them to become confident,
and acquire the language skills needed
to reach their full academic potential.
At Whitnash we provide a welcoming
atmosphere for newly arrived pupils
with EAL, gathering accurate information
regarding pupil’s backgrounds,
cultures and abilities as well as assessing
the skills and needs of each pupil.
We aim to equip teachers and support staff
with the necessary skills,
resources and knowledge
to support pupils with EAL
and use all available resources
to raise attainment.
At Whitnash all staff also strive
to maximise opportunities to model
the fluent use of English.
