What we are reading
Stanley Yelnats is under a curse. A curse that began with his no-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealing-great-great-grandfather and has since followed generations of Yelnats. Now Stanley has been unjustly sent to a boys’ detention centre, Camp Green Lake, where the boys build character by spending all day, every day digging holes exactly five feet wide and five feet deep. There is no lake at Camp Green Lake. But there are an awful lot of holes.
It doesn’t take long for Stanley to realize there’s more than character improvement going on at Camp Green Lake. The boys are digging holes because the warden is looking for something. But what could be buried under a dried-up lake? Stanley tries to dig up the truth in this inventive and darkly humorous tale of crime and punishment—and redemption.

Astro Camp 2024
Ash and Elm class have had the chance to take part in our own Astro Camp! During the day they all took part in astronaut training all completing physical, mental and skill challenges. They also had a chance to test different materials to compare their suitability for building spacecraft. Then, in the evening, they made constellation cups to project star patterns, they had a chance to toast marshmallows over a real campfire and then had a chance to identify real constellations looking at the night sky. They were lucky enough to take a closer look at the moon, stars and even Jupiter! After a hot chocolate and a biscuit the children snuggled down in their very own tents and spent the night in school. What an adventure for them!
Well done Year 5 on some super behaviour and taking that first step
towards being ready for your week-long residential in Year 6.
